Lolita's Personality

In general, Blue and Gold Macaws are lively birds who are fond of playing, climbing and interact. They require at least 2 to 3 hours per day in their cages to get physical exercise and mental stimulation. They enjoy playing games as well as listening to music and learning tricks. They also love playing in parks and playgrounds, hiking and visiting local bars and restaurants. Apart from being a fun pet they also make wonderful pets for children.
Despite their adoring appearance they are loud and can cause a disturbance to those who live near. They can make ear-shattering screeches and loud cries that could be disruptive for those who live in condos or apartments.
This species is also monomorphic. Males and females can be difficult to distinguish. Because of this the only way to reliably determine sex is through DNA testing. Once the sex of the birds is determined and breeding can begin, breeding can commence.
Blue and Gold Macaws, like all pets require training to learn commands and phrases. This is not a quick process, and it is essential that the pet's owner is patient and understands that this is not something to be undertaken lightly. Lolita's care
For decades activists have been calling for the retirement of Lolita's tricks at Miami Seaquarium and relocation to an open sea pen. Sadly, she did not get the chance to go back to the sea.
